Rick Schaad – The Heritage Keeper:
Rick Schaad has a lifelong bond with the land of Schaad Ranch, also known as Kantu. Growing up exploring its vast landscapes on horseback and motorcycles, Rick possesses a deep understanding and appreciation of the ranch’s history and terrain. His stories not only entertain but also educate, enriching the heritage of this recreational haven, which has been a host to the Wilseyville Hare Scrambles for 50 years. Rick’s enthusiasm for biking has helped develop an extensive trail system that serves dirt bike and e-bike enthusiasts alike.
Denise – A Nature Enthusiast and Athlete Extraordinaire:
Denise, a native of Wilseyville, has a profound connection with the outdoors, rooted in a semi-professional mountain biking career that evolved into dirt bike racing. Touring globally with Rick, her experiences span various athletic disciplines, including training athletes in cross-country mountain biking and triathlons. Beyond her athletic prowess, Denise finds the outdoors a healing sanctuary, aiding her recovery from addiction and childhood trauma.
Rick and Denise, both bound by their love for the land and their unwavering passion for outdoor adventures on two wheels, envisioned Kantu Outdoor Adventures as a place to share the spiritual essence of nature while embracing the thrill of riding through its vast and mesmerizing landscapes.

With over 60 years of combined experience in the motorcycle industry, Dave and Barbara have become well respected and highly regarded figureheads in California’s adventure motorcycle and dual sport riding scenes.

Meet Dave Harrell:
Dave Harrell brings over 50 years of motorcycle expertise as a seasoned rider, shop owner, and California Motorcycle Safety Program Instructor. His deep knowledge of the Sierra Nevada’s on and off-road routes makes him an exceptional guide for adventure seekers. Dave’s dedication extends beyond riding; he actively maintains trails through his non-profit and promotes safety as a CPR-certified instructor. An AMA lifetime member and skilled competitor, Dave offers unparalleled riding experiences across California.
Meet Barbara Harrell:
Barbara Harrell, with over 40 years on the trails and 15 years in the motorcycle industry, is a veteran rider and a California Motorcycle Safety Program instructor. She has a significant role in organizing adventure rides throughout California, demonstrating her commitment to the motorcycle community and rider safety. Barbara’s leadership in trail maintenance and her founding of a non-profit for trail preservation highlight her dedication. A pioneering Women’s A class racer and a vital force in introducing the Women’s Enduro Division, Barbara ensures every ride is memorable.
As active stewards of the sport, Dave and Barb have formed nonprofits to fight trail closures, taught motorcycle safety classes for the state of California and helped many new and seasoned riders discover dual sport and adventure riding for themselves.
